Judge limits DHS laptop border searches

A federal judge has ruled that border agents cannot seize a traveler's laptop, keep it locked up for months, and examine it for contraband files without a warrant half a year later.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White in the Northern District of California rejected the Obama administration's argument that no warrant was necessary to look through the electronic files of an American citizen who was returning home from a trip to South Korea.

To Rob Harris, his Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm handgun might as well be a pair of Nikes. The 36-year-old Eastpointe resident said strapping a holster and handgun to his waist is simply a part of his routine.

Oil Flow Estimates Are Significantly Boosted

As many as 50,000 barrels of oil per day may have flowed into the Gulf before it was partly contained on June 3, the U.S. Geological Survey says. Purdue University’s Steven Wereley, a key member of the group making the assessment, talks with WSJ’s Robert Lee Hotz about the new flow estimates.
